The Dillingham Public Health Center is the white building located downtown behind City Hall and the Dillingham City School / Bristol Bay Counseling Center offices. Free services and friendly, expert staff.

Family Law Self-Help Center (907) 264-0851
The Family Law Self-Help Center is a public service provided by the Alaska Court System dedicated to: helping people without lawyers understand family law procedures; increasing access to the court; and facilitating quicker resolution of family cases. They can answer questions about and provide forms for: Divorce, Dissolution, Custody, Visitation, and Child Support. Open Mon. and Wed. 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Also, Tue. and Thurs. 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Check it out online.

Division of Family & Youth Services 842-5237 & 842-2341
DFYS takes reports of abuse (sexual, physical, mental injury) and neglect. It provides alternative care for children who are at risk at home. All efforts are made to keep children in their parental home. Referral and supportive services are provided to children and family in need, DFYS licenses foster homes for children in need of aid. DFYS provides family-based counseling services to clients.

Violent Crimes Compensation (907) 465-3040 or 1-800-764-3040
The Alaska State Violent Crimes Compensation Board provides compensation to innocent victims of violent crime who have reported the crime to police. Can provide reimbursement of lost wages, financial support for dependents of deceased crime victims, transportation costs, dental expenses, medical expenses including counseling for both primary and secondary victims (i.e. children who witness the murder of a parent), and other losses caused by the crime. Will not provide compensation for property damage.

Public Defender Agency 842-4582
Defends the public who cannot afford an attorney.

District Attorney's Office 842-2482
Prosecutes and initiates investigations on criminal matters. The District Attorney’s office also has information on Violent Crimes Compensation (see above).

Adult Probation/Parole 842-5799
Supervises the conduct of Felony Probationers or Parolees, released to the Bristol Bay area.

Juvenile Probation 842-2341
Supervises juveniles released on probation. Incidental counseling to clients is provided.

District Court 842-5215
Handles misdemeanor criminal cases and several civil matters, such as small claims, restraining orders, marriages, or obtaining birth certificates. The court system is not allowed to give any legal advice or assistance with filling out documents to be filed.

Superior Court 842-5215
Handles all other court cases filed in Dillingham.

Legislative Information Office 842-5319
Coordinates communication between the legislators and their constituents through teleconferences and other means. Distributes a wide range of information on legislative records, documents, schedules and events. Serves as a resource center for information on the executive and judicial branches and the federal government.

Bristol Bay Job Center is an office operated by the State of Alaska. Services include:

The Department of Public Assistance helps low income people with financial assistance, food coupons and access to medical care. Public office hours are Monday – Friday, 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Programs include: ALASKA TEMPORARY ASSISTANCE PROGRAM – Cash and medical assistance for low-income families. Families with children under 19 or pregnant women in their third trimester may qualify when at least one parent is working less than 100 hours a month, too ill to work, absent or deceased.

FOOD STAMPS – Food coupons for low-income households for the purchase of food.

GENERAL RELIEF – Emergency assistance for low income individuals who are homeless, facing eviction, or have received a utility cut-off notice. This program may also help pay first month’s rent for a new place to live. Assistance is given on a month-to-month basis - - applicants must reapply each month.

GENERAL RELIEF MEDICAL – Provides emergency medical assistance for individuals, 21 years of age or older and under age 65 who have received or need emergency hospitalization or who have certain life threatening or chronic illnesses.

MEDICAID – Medical assistance for low-income individuals who are pregnant, under age 21, age 65 and over, or disabled.

AID TO THE DISABLED/BLIND – Cash and medical assistance for low-income individuals who are permanently disabled or legally blind. Applicants must have or be able to get a doctor’s statement of disability.

OLD AGE ASSISTANCE – Cash and medical assistance for low-income individuals who are at least 65 years of age.

FEE AGENT – 842-4058 Helps people fill out Public Assistance application forms. To locate a fee agent outside of Dillingham, call the Public Assistance Office at 1-800-478-4372.

State of Alaska Heating Assistance 1-800-470-3058
Provides energy assistance to low-income families by helping to pay for heat. Will assist with electricity, only if electricity is your main source of heat. Applications are available at Dillingham Senior Center, WIC, and Fee Agents.

A State program that pays weekly benefits if you had been working for a covered employer. You are eligible for unemployment insurance if you are unemployed or laid off through no fault of your own. If you have quit or were fired you have a waiting period before you can receive unemployment benefits.

Longevity Bonus (907) 276-3414
The longevity bonus is a check issued by the State for Seniors 65 and older who have been a resident of Alaska for at least one year. This program was phased out 12-31-96. Anyone turning 65 after that date will not receive this check.


State of Alaska Department of Fish and Game

Provides information on commercial fishing, sport fishing and hunting and trapping regulations. Provides subsistence fishing permits and registration moose hunt harvest cards.

Issues subsistence permits. Provides information on subsistence fishing regulations.

Manages all hunting and trapping in Bristol Bay.

BOARD SUPPORT 842-5142
Gathers and presents regulation proposals to the Board of Fish. Liaison between Board of Fisheries and the community for regulation proposals.
