Emergency Services
Provide immediate safety services including emergency transportation, shelter, food and 24 hour crisis intervention assistance accessed through the Crisis Line. Provides Advocacy services including accompaniment and assistance with courts, law enforcement, medical services and other providers for victims of domestic violence or sexual assault. Provides shelter, food, clothing and other residential support services. Children are welcome, but must be accompanied by a non-offending parent or guardian. Unaccompanied teens may be admitted with consent of their parent or legal guardian. SAFE will also provide second-hand clothing in emergency situations (e.g. fire) and to outlying villages.
 

Counseling
Provides short-term crisis intervention counseling for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault and operates a 24 hour toll-free crisis line for all of Bristol Bay. Referral and support in accessing other, longer term services for participants who request it. Self-help groups for women meet every Thursday evening (topics rotate), with childcare provided for those attending. Group for teens 12-19 meets every Tuesday evening.

SART (Sexual Assault Response Team)
SAFE participates in a coordinated response to adult and child victims of sexual assault. SART can be accessed through SAFE crisis line, BBAHC/SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner), and/or through village, local or state law enforcement. Services and assistance is available regardless of whether victim(s) want to make a police report. Victims of sexual assault should contact SAFE directly for assistance in accessing confidential support services.

SISTR (Safety in Sobriety Through Recovery)
Provides safe shelter for women who are battered and chemically dependent while they access treatment through Jake’s Place. Women with children can live in the shelter for extended periods while participating in IOP/OP (Intensive Out Patient), aftercare and/or other sobriety support activities.

Transportation
Provides emergency airfare to the nearest safe shelter to victims of domestic violence / sexual assault and their families when remaining in the village is unsafe. Transportation is provided only one-way. SAFE also provides local ground transportation to program participants in limited circumstances.

Activities
Sponsors alcohol-free activities for women and children on Friday evenings at the SAFE office. Children’s programs are offered periodically and include structured play, art, and education and support groups. Groups meet at the SAFE office and are open to the public. Legal Services
Provides legal information, referral and advocacy to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. Services include assistance to adult and child victims in obtaining Domestic Violence Restraining Orders, court accompaniment, and advocacy with various agencies involved in legal proceedings. Many services can be provided telephonically. SAFE also operates a daily court watch and tribal notification program linking tribes, villages and regional groups with updated information on criminal and civil justice issues.

Outreach & Education

SAFE provides community education on Domestic Violence and Sexual
Assault, including Personal Safety for children K-12. Sessions on family violence issues are provided weekly, monthly, and quarterly. SAFE’s Village Services will make every effort to meet any village request for a presentation within travel fund constraints. Will also provide reference materials on request. Certified staff provide professional trainings on domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse & neglect, sexual harassment and related subjects for law enforcement, educators, tribal and village leaders, members of the faith community, businesses, and other human service providers.

Crimes Compensation
Victims of domestic violence/sexual assault and other crimes may pick up crime compensation forms at the SAFE office. Staff can provide assistance in completing these forms and accessing VCC.

Anana’s House
SAFE also operates Anana’s House, a 5-bed emergency receiving home for children taken into state custody. Anana’s House is open to children, age 0-19, placed through tribes, DFYS and/or Juvenile Probation office.
